Associate Professor, Department of Biomedical Engineering
Dr. Akkin's lab focuses on development and use of label-free optical imaging techniques to study structural and functional disorders in biological tissue.
The contributions of Dr. Akkin's lab include brain imaging and mapping at micrometer resolution with serial optical coherence scanner, revealing SCA1 pathology using label-free unbiased contrasts of polarization-sensitive optical coherence tomography, depth-resolved optical imaging of neural action potentials, and introducing technological advances for imaging and sensing applications.
